Doncaster's misted unit specialists

Misted double glazed units replaced. Change the glass, not the whole window.

When condensation appears between the panes, the sealed unit has failed, not your window. We take out the misted unit and fit a new one into your existing frame, so you keep your frames, handles and sills and pay a fraction of the cost of new windows.

Steamy Windows has been doing exactly this across Doncaster since 2003, with a 10 year guarantee on every glass replacement.

The straight answer

Why replace just the glass unit instead of the whole window?

A double glazed window is really two things: the frame, and the sealed glass unit that sits inside it. When your windows mist up, it is almost always the sealed unit that has failed. The frame is usually in perfectly good order. Replacing only the part that has failed is quicker, tidier and a lot cheaper.

What we do

Glass change (sealed unit replacement)

  • Your existing frames, sills, handles and hinges all stay put
  • No mess installation, and no ripping out of plaster or trims
  • You can upgrade to A-rated energy saving glass at the same time
  • Backed by our 10 year guarantee on Kite marked units
  • No deposit taken, and cards are welcome

The alternative

Full window replacement

  • Frames, sills and internal trims are all taken out
  • More disruption and more time with your home opened up
  • Redecoration is often needed once the fitters have gone
  • A far bigger bill, even when the frame was perfectly sound
  • Rarely necessary if the only fault is a blown sealed unit

Not sure which you need? Call 07887 506 788 and describe the problem. If your frames are past saving we will tell you honestly, rather than sell you glass you cannot use.

After: the same uPVC window with a new sealed unit fitted, the view through the glass now completely clear After

Service one

Misted glass replacement

Condensation sitting between the panes means the seal on the unit has gone. It cannot be cleaned out, because the water is on the inside faces of the glass. We measure the failed unit, order a new one, and fit it into the frame you already have.

  • uPVC, aluminium and hardwood frames
  • Leaded, Georgian and stained units
  • Kite marked sealed units
  • 10 year guarantee on all glass replacement work
How long it takes
Turnaround is around one week from measure to fitting, allowing time for the glass to be ordered.

Service two

A-rated energy saving glass

While the glass is coming out anyway, it costs very little more to put something better back in. A-rated units use Planitherm low emission glass, argon gas and a thermal spacer bar, so more of the heat you pay for stays in the room.

  • Up to 5 times more efficient than standard windows
  • 2 times more efficient than ordinary double glazing
  • Lower heating bills and reduced condensation
  • Save the cost of new window frames
  • Reduce your carbon footprint

Save money as well as reducing your carbon footprint

It is a little known fact that a significant amount of domestic heat loss escapes straight out through the windows. Fitting Planitherm energy saving glass keeps more of that heat where you want it.

Common questions

Misted double glazing, answered

What causes misted or foggy double glazing?

Misting happens when the seal around a double glazed unit fails and moisture gets trapped between the two panes of glass. Once condensation is sitting inside the unit it cannot be cleaned out, because the water is on the inside faces of the glass. The unit itself has to be replaced.

Can you replace just the glass, or do I need whole new windows?

In most cases only the glass needs replacing. If the frame, hinges and handles are still sound, we take out the failed sealed unit and fit a new one into your existing frame, which costs a great deal less than a whole new window.

What types of window can you fit units into?

We fit double glazed units into uPVC, aluminium and hardwood frames, and we supply leaded, Georgian and stained units as well as plain glass.

Do you take a deposit?

No. We never take a deposit, and credit cards are welcome.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. We use Kite marked sealed units and, unlike most glazing firms, we offer a 10 year guarantee on all of our glass replacement work.

What is A-rated energy saving glass?

It is a sealed unit built with Planitherm low emission glass, filled with argon gas and fitted with a thermal spacer bar. Around 26% of all domestic heat loss in UK homes escapes through the windows, so switching to A-rated units cuts heat loss and condensation. Our A-rated units are 5 times more energy efficient than standard windows and 2 times more efficient than ordinary double glazing.
